Key Business Growth Tips from Myrna
Now that you have a glimpse into Myrna's journey, let's explore her top tips for growing your business:

1. Embrace Community Investment
Myrna emphasizes the importance of investing in your community. Instead of solely relying on donations, consider how you can invest in local initiatives that yield returns for both you and the community. "What if we could give in a way that we give our 10%? But then what if there's a way that we could give by investing?" Investing in community projects not only supports those in need but also creates a sustainable model for generosity that can benefit everyone involved.

2. Collaborate with Others
Myrna highlights the power of collaboration. "You can't do these things alone; you need to do them with others," she notes. As you pursue your business goals, seek out partnerships and collaborations that can amplify your impact. Engaging with others who share your vision can lead to innovative solutions and greater success.

3. Be Bold in Your Requests
When pursuing big goals, it’s essential to be courageous in asking for support. Myrna encourages business owners to reach out to their networks and invite others to join them in their vision. "Sometimes when we have a big vision, we can't do it alone," she advises. This vulnerability can lead to unexpected partnerships and opportunities.

4. Continuously Learn and Adapt
In the ever-changing landscape of business, continuous learning is crucial. Myrna's journey reflects a commitment to personal growth and adaptation. Whether through formal training or informal mentorship, investing in your own development will equip you to face challenges and seize new opportunities.

Rev. Lyle
Hello and welcome to the Christian Business Growth Podcast. I’m here with Myrna Miott. Myrna, how did you get started in business?

Myrna
It’s funny, it’s hard to remember a time when I wasn’t in business in some capacity. It actually started when I was a teacher in the 90s. The income gap was real, so I started building websites. Not many people were doing that back then, so I made some side income.

What I quickly realized was there were so many incredible Kingdom-minded people launching businesses, but they didn’t know how to find customers or be found. My thought was, if I can help these businesses step into abundance, more of God’s work gets funded.

Even when I went into full-time ministry, I was always coaching people on the side. Then in 2021, I was working in nonprofit fundraising when they closed offices and handed me an exit plan. God pushed me into the marketplace.

I started doing fractional marketing and development work. I wanted to master the revenue engine. I trained in direct sales and became a fractional sales coach.

Looking back, I had to experience the frustration and learn advanced sales so I could step into my role today, which is now a fund manager.

Rev. Lyle
That’s impressive. Tell us about the project you’re working on.

Myrna
I stepped into a fund manager role. The lifeblood of business is revenue. I realized I had developed strong marketing and sales skills, and now I’m using them to raise funds for communities.

We’re pooling money together and inviting investors to help purchase commercial real estate to protect vulnerable communities. We’re creating spaces for ministry, food pantries, and community centers.

Rev. Lyle
You said marketing is a gift. I’d say it’s really teaching.

Myrna
Yes. I think the real gift is connecting with people. I love connecting, and that led into teaching marketing and helping people find customers.

Rev. Lyle
Everything in business is serving people.

What is God doing in your business right now?

Myrna
He’s calling me into something new. It’s familiar in some ways, but also scary. I’ve never purchased large commercial properties before.

God is showing me I can’t do this alone. Big visions require community. I’m being stretched to be bold and invite others into something bigger.

Rev. Lyle
That’s a God-sized vision. Those always include other people.

What’s a business growth tip?

Myrna
We often say we’ll make money, take care of our family, and give 10 percent.

But what if we gave more?

What if we gave through investing?

We can invest in communities, buildings, and projects that create a return while funding ministry. It becomes a yield, not just a donation.

Rev. Lyle
That’s a win-win. You impact others and grow at the same time.

Myrna
Exactly. It’s an elevated way of giving. We’re still generous, but now we multiply impact.

Rev. Lyle
We see that in real estate too. When you invest, you can help others and grow at the same time.

Myrna
And when we add value to a property, we’re really adding value to people and communities.

Rev. Lyle
What’s another tip?

Myrna
We add faith to our values and customer service, but we can also add faith to our bottom line.

We can build generosity into our business culture. When we invest back into communities, it spreads through our team and partnerships.

Rev. Lyle
As God increases us, we should increase our impact.

Myrna
Yes. I was reading Isaiah 58 about being repairers of broken walls. As business owners, we can repair what’s broken around us.

Rev. Lyle
Sometimes it’s as simple as helping someone nearby.

Myrna
Exactly. Business is just another phase of ministry.

Rev. Lyle
There’s no such thing as a Christian business. There’s a Christian entrepreneur.

Myrna
My final thought is this. Connect with people. People are our greatest resource.
